Despite advancements in medical care, diagnostics, and health information available to us all, I believe we still have a heart health crisis in the United States because we make poor decisions regarding our health. Our food is packed with synthetics, overly processed and generally unhealthy. Our healthy food is expensive making it less accessible to families and those with financial difficulties. Additionally, we are a fast-paced society looking for the fastest way to get what we need. Fast food and frozen, pre-made meals are attractive and generally more economical. Sweets are readily available and packed with high fructose corn syrup, MSG and other disease-causing substances... even in the cereal aisle! Misinformation is everywhere - diet sodas, low fat breakfast bars, and sugar free items are promoted as good for us. At the end of the day, a sedentary lifestyle sets in because we have difficulty relaxing and sleeping at night.
As a natural healthcare practitioner, I would love to make personal recommendations on increased activity (depending on your current physical state) whether it be a walk in the evenings after dinner or hitting the gym routinely. Additionally, I would make dietary recommendations such as cutting out simple carbohydrates (bread, pasta, beer, etc.), removing sugars (high fructose corn syrup, added sugars, sugar replacements, etc.) and modified sugars. Simple adjustments like adding steel cut oats, raw unfiltered honey and whole grains in lieu of bread and sugar are highly beneficial to a client's ability to get healthy. Increase water intake slowly with a goal of half the body weight in ounces and keep caffeine consumption to a minimum.
These are just a few modifications that can be made and will show quick results in most people. For a more personalized dietary and activity plan, consider scheduling an appointment to Be Better!
